Jesus’ Heart

Christ calls us to go above and beyond the ordinary. In Matthew 5:41 Jesus says, ‘And whoever would compel you to go a mile, go with him two’. Locals understood the request to ‘go a mile’ as the means by which Roman oppressors would requisition local goods and labour – by force. So, here, Jesus instruction to also go an extra mile would have shocked them. But, this is typical of Jesus to call into question what is a normal response, and to show a different way, one that is above and beyond the human norm, and one that is representative of Christ’s sacrificial way. “Going the extra mile” today commonly means to do more than is needed.

He moves our hearts to a vision beyond ourselves to see His Kingdom come: to see people saved and added to His family; to see the Nations reached for Christ; and to see His church grow as a powerful witness of His majesty in our local area.

The Thessalonian Example

Paul in his letter to the Corinthian church holds up the Macedonian churches as a wonderful example of sacrificial love and giving. ‘Out of their most severe trial., their overflowing joy and their extreme poverty welled up in rich generosity. For I testify that they gave as much as they were able, and even beyond their ability (2 Corinthians 8:2-3).

God calls us to serve the nations, and we are strongly involved in helping churches, ministries, children’s home and other needs. Currently we are supporting the people and ministries below.

Bethel Children’s Homes

Bethel Children’s Homes have been in operation since 1998 when the first home opened with 11 girls. Since then two new homes have been built to house more girls on the same property. An additional property was purchased to house boys. All of the children in the homes have been affected in some way by the war and civil unrest in Sri Lanka.

The homes have government permission to care for up to 40 children. They maintain a family-like environment by ensuring a high level of individual care. The homes ensure all children are sent to primary and secondary schools within the community, assures all medical and healthcare needs are met, provides all subsistence needs (i.e. food, clothing, shelter, water, sanitation, recreation etc.), and commits to continually support their overall physical, emotional, mental and intellectual development.

World Missions Faith Training School

The CRC was invited to re-establish a Bible School located near Luganville on the northern island of Espiritu Santo. In April 1997, Pr Geno Kanage from Papua New Guinea (PNG) and Pr Bill Brill from Australia went to the island to prepare the neglected school grounds and buildings. Seven students graduated from the first intake of Living Stone School of Evangelism.

PNG missionaries Pr Geno and Eleina Kanage were the first principals of the school. They were followed by Samuel Reddy from Fiji, assisted by PNG missionary Gill Michael; Peter Saimon from Vanuatu and his PNG wife Rachel; and more recently, Pr John and Unuba Weimani from PNG. Benjamin and Asinate Wari are the next principals of the school, beginning their missionary service from PNG in 2023.

Institute of Discipleship and Ministry Training

Institute of Discipleship and Ministry Training (IDMT) was established in 2019. IDMT admits students, both male and female, with a focus on their love for God and the desire to serve rather than on their educational background. The vision of IDMT is to equip as many church leaders, church workers and pastors with a sound knowledge of the Word of God.

The school operates on the premises of the Cross Outreach Church International in Abuesi, Ghana. Students are accepted from every part of Ghana and Africa. IDMT has graduated pastors, missionaries, evangelist, musicians and church workers and a majority of these graduates are actively involved in the Kingdom work. Our graduates are now pastoring outreach churches, assisting church leaders, leading children’s ministry, serving as youth leaders, and conducting door to door, street and public bus evangelism.
