September 2011 - Healing

A lady who had a very sore wrist and could not properly hold a spoon to feed her child because of pain was instantly healed in a Sunday morning service after receiving prayer.

Prayer

People spend time in prayer in our various groups and on Sundays.

Someone has said that prayer is to the soul, what oxygen is to the lungs! It really does keep us alive spiritually. It connects us to someone beyond ourselves and our own resources: God! Prayer is simply talking to and with God. It is about presenting to God our desires and needs, but also taking the time to listen for what he might impress on our hearts! It releases power to live!

Prayer is also essential to bring change to this world. Jesus prayed, ‘thy Kingdom come’ (Matt 6) and he calls us to do the same. It is the coming Kingdom of God that brings lasting change to our world. Jesus Christ is King and Lord of all (Read the Book of Revelation). At God’s appointed time, Christ the King will return and everything as we know it will change. For now, we pray that Jesus reign might enter the hearts of more and more people. This more than anything else changes our world for the better!

The Bible is clear about the need for prayer. Colossians 4:2 says ‘be devoted to prayer’. Ringing through every book of the Old and New Testament there is the call to pray!

Without prayer we lose contact with God. He is always there though, and longs for us to know him and relate to him personally through prayer. Jesus spent lots of time in prayer and we see in the early church the example set by Christ’s followers who gathered often for prayer (Acts).

If a person could spend at least 15 minutes a day in prayer, their world would change dramatically!

Jesus Goes With Us

Mark 16:14-15, 19-20
14 Later Jesus appeared to the Eleven as they were eating; he rebuked them for their lack of faith and their stubborn refusal to believe those who had seen him after he had risen.

15 He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation."

19 After the Lord Jesus had spoken to them, he was taken up into heaven and he sat at the right hand of God.

20 Then the disciples went out and preached everywhere, and the Lord worked with them and confirmed his word by the signs that accompanied it.
